1 lot to be delivered

  • Lot n° 283 Hercules Brabazon Brabazon,  British 1821-1906-  Giudecca Canal, Venice; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed with initials 'HBB' (lower right), bears later inscription with the artist's name, dates, and title on the backing board, 18.2 x 25.2 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  The present work is a particularly striking example of the many Venetian scenes that Brabazon Brabazon produced over the course of his career, with the church of Le Zitelle faintly outlined to the right of the otherwise hazy composition. This atmospheric watercolour clearly references the approach of J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), resembling the latter's own watercolour of the Giudecca Canal which is now in the collection of the Tate Galleries [D32129].
