The case surmounted by a gilt brass tied-bud carrying handle raised on pommels over a caddy top with cast floral mounts to the front and repoussé mounts to the sides, on a flat-topped cornice, with long glazed side apertures, the front door with typical Knibb escutcheons and pierced wooden sound fret, all resting on a moulded base. The 6.5 inch square brass dial with latched dial feet, and silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with outer minute band, and fleur-de-lys half hour markers emanating from the quarter track, the finely matted centre with (later) blued steel hands framed by four cast brass cherub spandrels signed along the lower edge Joseph Knibb, London. The movement with five vase shaped turned and latched pillars, the strike train now missing and the going train with replacement wheels, with verge escapement and short bob pendulum, the finely engraved back plate depicting symmetrical pairs of leaves and flowers within a single line border, signed in a shallow arc Joseph Knibb, Londini Fecit. Ticking, sold together with a door key and later winding key of the correct size. 35cm (14ins) high.
