Jeffress (1920-2014) "T'àà Diné / Land of the Navaho," 1982 Screenprint in colors, blind embossing, and collage (of silver/brass/turquoise, and a feather) on Arches paper Edition: 77/90 Signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil along the lower sheet edge; the Navajo version of the title printed as part of the image Image/Sheet: 22.5" H x 15" W Provenance: Adagio Galleries, Palm Springs, CA Private collection, La Cañada, CA, from the above, 1985 Other Notes: This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist and dated 30 July 1985 as well as a copy of the sales invoice from Adagio Galleries. In addition to the standard verifying information about this particular impression, the certificate also provides the following information: "A view of Monument Valley, Utah, on the reservation looking north toward the 'King on the throne.'... "The brass and sterling pot is a replica of a Zuni olla (1884) with a rain bird design, a spot of turquoise has been added. The pot is hand-crafted. The words are Navaho and repeat the title." Overall good appearance. The full sheet with deckled edges. The collaged silver and brass relief of a Zuni olla is slightly tarnished, as predicted by the artist (see quote from artist reprinted below). The sheet is framed floating, hinged to the back mat in places from the verso of the upper sheet edge. Not examined out of the frame.
