• Lot n° 52 Central India, Jaipur, 18th/19th cent. 15,5 x 23,5 cm At the upper edge on a yellow background a description in Nagari script. Below it, in the background, a group of trees and plants with two monkeys jumping around. In front of it, in the centre of a palace flanked by two towers, sits a high-ranking woman surrounded by three servants on a floral carpet in front of a gallery of sculptures. One of them is holding a fly whisk, another is bringing a seat cushion. On the left, another woman on a red carpet with a musical instrument fixates a tiger crouching opposite her. Below, a pond with lotus flowers and four herons. The colour scheme and the composition are strikingly polychrome, but are further enhanced by the large white palace. From an old private collection in Stuttgart, collected since the 1960s, partly also from old family property, according to records this miniature was acquired from Christophe Cavite, 143 Rue des Blancs Mouchons, 59500 Douai, on 5.10.2010, Miniature Orientale de L'Inde 2, Soustiel Catalogue, page 56, lot 52 (catalogue not preserved) - Minor wear and small losses
