  • Lot n° 752 China, 17th/ 18th cent. 145 x 71 cm Ink and colours on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll with brocade. The historical Buddha Shakyamuni sits in the lotus position (Dhyanasana) at the centre of the picture. His right hand is raised, whilst his left hand rests relaxed in his lap. He is enthroned on a large, fully opened lotus flower, which rests on a richly decorated, octagonal pedestal. On one of the lower levels, two smaller, kneeling guardian figures or disciples can be seen paying homage to the Buddha. Behind his head is a green nimbus, surrounded by a large, circular halo with radiant, colourful patterns of flames and light. Above him stretches an ornate canopy amidst stylised, colourful cloud formations. Old European private collection - Minor age damages, the mount damaged
