A good early 18th century walnut eight-day longcase clock George Graham, London, No.669 George Graham, London, No.669
The caddy top over a silk-backed pierced sound fret raised on brass-mounted Doric three-quarter and quarter columns. The long door with quarter-veneered panels framed by a moulded edge, over a matching base with double apron. The horizontal door sill crisply stamped twice 669.
The 12 inch square brass dial with Indian mask spandrels to each corner, interspersed by three areas of flowing foliate scrolls centred by a flowerhead, the silvered Roman and Arabic dial with outer minute band, inner quarters and floating lozenge half-hour markers, finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, shuttered winding squares, chamfered date aperture with pin-hole adjustment and applied silvered nameplaque. Signed again on the lower edge Geo: Graham, London.
The twin train movement with substantial plates united by five heavy knopped and latched pillars; the going train with bolt-and-shutter maintaining power to an anchor escapement with long steel crutch; the strike train with rack striking on a bell via a brass-headed hammer. The backplate crisply numbered 669 on the lower edge. The oak seatboard applied with a printed label Camerer Cuss & Co.... dated 12.67 and again SK 3/74. Ticking and striking, and sold together with a pair of brass clad weights, a trunk door key, a hood door key, and a pendulum.
