The massive case with substantial pineapple finial and twin brass-bound pads over a pair of heavy cast handles, hinged side doors with cast and pierced brass sound frets to a brass-bound case on elaborate scroll feet, the front angles further set with cast mounts.
The 4.75 inch signed silvered arched dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring and mock pendulum aperture set below three subsidiaries, comprising a smaller pair for regulation and to lock/unlock the pendulum, and a third larger one to select one of ten tunes, marked 1-10, with blued steel hands. Framed by a large (50cms x 33cms/19.5ins x 13ins) arched dial painted on metal, depicting two flights of stairs leading up to an embarkation area with two figures discussing cargo on a tiled floor, in the background a parade of automata ships sail past on choppy waters, against a further scene of a palace and a pair of automata windmills on the cliffs beyond, each with rotating vanes; the front further set with a cast mount depicting the seven liberal arts comprising sculpture, architecture, geometry, music, arithmetic, astronomy, painting. The clock movement wound, locked and regulated from the front, striking the hours on a bell. The musical train powered by a large spring and fusee wound from the side, all the tunes driven from a five inch diameter pinned wooden cylinder activating three divisions of metal pipes to the rear. The barrel carries an applied printed label for xxxx Flight xxxx...Organ Builders, Exeter Change, Strand, Makes and Repairs...Machine Organs....on the most reasonable terms. 80cms (31ins) high.
