  • Lot n° 106 A mid 17th century brass striking lantern clock Surmounted by a (later) turned finial over a bell and bell stand, supported by four turned squat urn-shaped finials intercepted by pierced frets, the front engraved with two dolphins amid tulips and foliate scrolls on a cross-hatched base, with Doric-topped columns and fitted with (replaced) brass side doors, the rear with a later steel backplate. The whole raised on four turned ball feet. The 6.5 inch brass Roman dial with inner quarter hour track interrupted by bud-shaped half-hour markers, the centre engraved with a ring of tulips and floral decoration and retaining a plain central area where an alarm setting disc was formerly fitted. Fitted with a finely shaped steel hand. The 30-hour movement originally with verge and balance wheel, but not converted to long pendulum and anchor escapement, powered by a single weight on rope lines, with countwheel strike on the bell above via a hammer set to the right hand side. Currently ticking and striking. 35cm (14ins) high.
