  • Lot n° 154 A walnut veneered Roman striking longcase clock The dial signed for Joseph Knibb, London The dial signed for Joseph Knibb, London The flat topped hood surmounted by a carved cresting and plain frieze supported by four twisted Doric columns, the sides with glazed observation windows over a convex throat moulding, the trunk door with veneered panels framed by a D shaped moulding, on a panelled base and bun feet. The 10 inch square brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, the matted centre with date aperture beneath XII, with finely finished blued steel hands, all framed by four cast brass winged cherubs head spandrels. The robust movement united by five heavy knopped and latched pillars with anchor escapement, the Roman striking movement sounding the hours on a pair of square edged bells via two hammers and custom pin wheel work. Currently ticking and striking, sold with a pair of brass clad weights. 2m (6ft 7ins) high.
