A good late 17th century ebonised musical table clock playing two tunes on 25 hammers and 14 bells via a titled pinned barrel Paul Beauvais, London Paul Beauvais, London
The case surmounted by five cast spherical finials around a 'Huguenot' style stepped bell top with silk-backed sound fret, the front door with applied cast mounts, the sides with windows and decorated carrying handles, terminating in a moulded base on a further moulded plinth mounted with cast dogs to each side, standing on four cast brass feet.
The impressive 10 inch brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring with lozenge half-quarter marks and cruciform half-hour markers emanating from the quarter track, the matted centre with ringed winding squares, mock pendulum and calendar apertures within a finely engraved wheatear border set with a pair of levers marked Strike/Silent and 1 tune/2 tune, signed at 6 o'clock P. Beauvais, London.
The triple chain fusee movement with converted anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell and playing on a nest of thirteen bells and twenty five hammers, via the brass pinned cylinder engraved with tune titles Folie D'Espagne and Lylybulero, the back plate richly engraved with strap work and foliage around the signature. Currently ticking, striking and playing. 63cms (25ins) high.
