Beginning in 1962, what began as casual browsing in antique shops evolved into a passion that fueled a collection of extraordinary scope and quality. By the mid-1970s, the Routh collection had achieved national recognition. Pieces from the collection were regularly loaned to museums and other prestigious institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and museums throughout the country, where they educated and inspired countless visitors. True to her philanthropic nature, Mrs. Routh ensured that her collection would serve an educational purpose beyond her lifetime. She generously donated a significant portion of the collection to the Claremont Colleges, where it remains on permanent display in the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, continuing to enrich the academic and cultural life of the institution. Following Mrs. Routh's passing in 1999, the remaining works from her collection were carefully preserved within the family, where they have been treasured for over two decades. John Moran Auctioneers is honored to present a selection of works from this celebrated collection.
