An interesting late 17th century provincial walnut veneered longcase clock Walter Archer, Stow-on-the-Wold Walter Archer, Stow-on-the-Wold
The case with flat top over a convex moulded cornice supported by twisted Doric columns and large pierced sound fret above the dial, the sides with glazed observation windows to a convex throat moulding, the long trunk door with inlaid double line panels centred by a six-pointed star and oval lenticle, set on a panelled base and bun feet. The 10 inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with unusual heart-shaped half hour markers, the matted centre with large ringed winding squares enclosed by a ring of dots, with decorated date aperture and silvered Arabic subsidiary seconds dial, with blued steel hands framed by four cast brass spandrels, signed either side of VI Walter Archer, Stow on ye Wold. The twin train movement with internal count wheel strike and five pinned pillars, striking on a large bell mounted above with anchor escapement and long pendulum, currently ticking and striking, sold with two lead weights and a pendulum. 2.05m (6.75ft) high.
