A lady tying an obi, next to a folding screen of which only the brocade border featuring floral medallions and aoi vines is visible, and to the left a wooden naga-hibachi with a slightly, a partially filled iron kettle and yellow metal chopsticks. Signed Nakayama Toshitsugu sha 中山年次寫; seal: Ichiōsai Toshitsugu 一櫻斎年次. Ink and colours on silk, framed.

Nakayama Toshitsugu was a pupil of Utagawa Kuniyoshi and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. He lived in Yokohama and painted Japanese scenes in the Western style for foreigners, as well as portraits of foreigners in Japanese costume - Signs of age, minor restorations
