• Léa Decamps-Lafugie, French 1890-1972 - Siamoise et orchidées; oil on canvas, signed lower right 'Lafugie', 92 x 72.7 cm (ARR) Provenance: a Private Collection of French Naturalist Painters Note: an artist and explorer, Decamps-Lafugie was one of the first known Western women to travel widely in Southeast Asia in 1920s and becoming celebrated for her brilliant depictions of the places she experienced. As well as the landscapes around her, Decamps-Lafugie was particularly brilliant at evoking nightlife and cultural events, in works like the present lot. Her work was most recently presented as part of the exhibition 'Du fleuve Rouge au Mékong' in 2012 at the Musée Cernuschi in Paris.
