  • Lot n° 453 Tim Maguire, Australian b.1958 - Untitled (0101), 2007; oil on canvas, signed, titled and dated on the reverse 'Maguire 07 Untitled 0101', 182 x 161.5 cm (unframed) (ARR) Provenance: with Von Lintel Gallery, New York (label attached to the reverse of the frame); private collection, purchased from the above Note: the paintings of Tim Maguire are as impressive viewed up close as they are from a distance. He uses a painting technique of pigment separation, layering the bold colours, not unlike printing processes. In describing his work, he calls them “chemical interventions” that are “more about breaking imagery down, exposing the process that leads to photographic illusion.” Maguire's captivating flowers stand in the tradition of that of Georgia O'Keeffe and Mark Quinn. His works are in the collection of the British Museum, London and in nearly every Australian institution including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; and Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide.
