The lancet shaped case with brass and ebony inlay stringing to the front over inlaid ebony griffons flanking a lyre, framed by outswept canted front corners set with Egyptian figures, on acorn feet, the sides with lion mask ring handles and blue glass panels. The (replaced) 8 inch brass dial with gilt chapter ring set with applied Roman numerals and with dotted minute track enclosing the silvered centre with applied signature swag John Bowen, London and large recessed subsidiary seconds dial with matted centre. The double chain fusee movement with shaped plates, deadbeat escapement and finely finished pendulum with central regulation nut set in a lozenge, unusually with ting-tang chime for the hours and quarters via a countwheel mounted on the centre, striking the hours and quarters on a pair of polished bells, the backplate with engraved running border. Currently ticking and striking. 53cms (21ins) high.
