The later 8 inch silvered brass gothic Roman dial signed in the centre Metcalfe, London, with matching gilt brass hands framed by engraved spandrels and two subsidiary dials above, the left for date and the right for strike/silent. The triple wire fusee movement with knife edge verge escapement, striking the hours on a bell and chiming the quarters on a nest of eight bells and hammers, the backplate with running swag border framing the central signature cartouche signed Metcalfe, Newgate Street, London. 48cms (19ins) high.
