• Lot n° 33 A very fine third quarter of the 19th century French ormolu-mounted mahogany table regulator with chronometer escapement, remontoir and moonphase dial Berthoud, Paris Berthoud, Paris The rectangular case with moulded corners and surmounted by a brass-framed bevelled glass inspection panel revealing the chronometer platform below, the sides of polished mahogany terminating in a lotus-leaf cast ormolu frame, the plinth base on brass button feet. The 4 inch rectangular dial set to the top with a subsidiary rolling moonphase with engraved stars and moon against a blued background, the outer arc marked 1-29.5 to give the age of the moon, further set to the centre with a counterbalanced blued steel seconds hand reading against the outer scale 0-60, the larger time dial below with dotted minute band framing the elegant Roman hours and engine turned centre with a power reserve arc at VI, with blued steel Breguet style hands, all enclosed by a fine lattice-effect engine turned mask and angled sight ring. The twin spring barrel movement striking the half-hours and hours on a rectangular-section blued steel gong, the going train re-winding a subsidiary remontoir geared directly onto the jewelled centre wheel and terminating in a platform with flat blued steel hairspring to a cut and compensated chronometer style bimetallic balance and jewelled pivoted detent escapement.
