The 8 inch rectangular velvet-covered dial with gilt brass skeletonised Roman chapter ring, with inner quarter-hour track and decorated winding square, with finely pierced and engraved counter-poised hand. Signed on a repousse brass hinged plaque Christiaen Reijnaert In Leyden. The dial plate hinged and opening to reveal the single barrel movement with tandem winding driving a verge escapement with silk supsension between cycloidal cheeks, the light brass rod terminating in a spherical lead bob. The strike dictated by a finely pierced, engraved and numbered countwheel mounted on the backplate, the accompanying steelwork turned and fettled, striking on a bell set vertically below. On opening the case, the rear 'show wood' parquetry stellar inlay is revealed, together with the circular aperture in the base to allow the sound of the bell to travel. Ticking and striking, sold together with an associated door/winding key 39cms (15.5ins) high.
