Dean is interested in the concept of navigation both in space and in time, primarily working with film and photography. Dean was the 12th artist commissioned for the prestigious Tate Turbine Hall commission in 2011 and was a Turner Prize nominee in 1998. She was the subject of a solo exhibition at The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas, later in 2024 entitled 'Tacita Dean: Blind Folly',
