Poul Kjærholm, born in 1929 in Øster Vrå, Denmark, was an influential 20th-century furniture designer known for his minimalist approach and innovative use of industrial materials such as steel. He began his career as an apprentice carpenter in 1948 and later studied at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. His designs, such as the iconic PK22, are noted for their structural clarity and functionality. He designed the PK62 table, a functional and elegant piece with a satin-finished stainless steel base and a slate, marble, or granite top, conceived to accompany his PK20 and PK24 chairs. Throughout his life, Kjærholm received numerous awards, and his legacy continues to be celebrated in museums around the world. His collaboration with Fritz Hansen ensured that his designs were produced with the quality and precision he demanded. Kjærholm died in 1980, but his influence on modern design remains profound and lasting.
