  • Lot n° 118 An early George III mahogany bureau on stand of excellent quality and attractive proportions 1760-1765, possibly by Thomas Chippendale or almost certainly made by a contemporary cabinet maker active on the historic St. Martin's Lane 1760-1765, possibly by Thomas Chippendale or almost certainly made by a contemporary cabinet maker active on the historic St. Martin's Lane With a full complement of mahogany lined drawers, the hinged fall enclosing six arched pigeon holes above four drawers, flanking a central door, enclosing two short drawers, interspersed by two engaged cluster columnar mahogany lined bookends, with a tooled leather inset surface, over mahogany lopers and two short drawers, the stand comprised of an ogee moulded edge with one long frieze drawer below, above a foliate scrolled, acanthus and elongated c-scroll carved apron centred by a cabochon to the front and each side, on four floral swag carved, acanthus clasped and wrapped cabriole legs, with foliate carved scroll feet terminating in moulded plinth block feet and recessed brass castors, with an old indistinctly inscribed paper label to the underside, 92.5cm wide x 61cm deep x 93.5cm high, (36in wide x 24in deep x 36 1/2in high)
