Depicting a dynamic composition of vibrant colors and flowing forms: a series of dense, vertical bands of color in deep natural tones that break open expressively towards the bottom, dissolving into watery textures upon a luminous white surface. Signed in pink lower right: Jolly. From a German private collection, according to e-mail correspondence with the artist previously owned by Jack Wilson Lydman (1914-2005), the fourth ambassador of the United States to Malaysia - Very minimally wear Dr. Jolly Koh (born 1941) is a pioneer of Malaysian modernism and a founding member of the groundbreaking artist group "GRUP" from 1967. His paintings are characterised by a masterful interplay of colour, light and space. He often combines oil and acrylic colours to create profound abstract compositions, often reminiscent of landscapes. He studied at Hornsey College of Art in London and later completed a doctorate in art education at Indiana University in the USA. The present painting can be placed stylistically in his pioneering "Stripe" and "Reflection" creative phase of the 1970s, where he experimented intensively with the fusion of lyrical abstraction and colour field painting
