The case with foliate-tied S-form handle on a cushion-moulded top with applied brass mounts, the sides with foliate cast brass repoussé sound frets and small D-ended wooden frets and similar repoussé frets to the front door, the moulded base on later brass block feet. The 6.75 inch brass rectangular dial signed Charles Gretton, LONDON within foliate engraving over the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with cruciform half hour and half- quarter markers and blued steel hands to the matted centre with decorated mock pendulum and date apertures, all framed by winged cherubs head spandrels. The movement with five knopped pillars and twin gut fusees, rebuilt knife edge verge escapement, striking the hours on a bell via a numbered outside countwheel, the backplate boldly engraved with a main foliate scroll issuing leaves and buds, signed Charles Gretton, LONDON. Currently ticking and striking, and sold together with two case keys. 40cms (16ins) high.
