Painting in ink, colours and gold on silk. Depiction of an Imperial couple. Signed Shinsai Senchō and bearing two seals, the second reading Shinsai.
From a German private collection - Senchō (Teisai Senchō, 貞斎泉晁), a Ukiyo-e artist and book illustrator of the late Edo period, was a pupil of Keisai Eisen and is best known for his bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women). His documented period of activity extends from the 1830s to the 1850s. Among his best-known works is the series Zensei azuma fūkei (“Flourishing Scenes of the East”) - Minor wear, partly slightly minor creased, mounted as a hanging scroll
