• Lot n° 35 A Mexican black beaver fur Caballero sombrero Circa 1865-85 The black fur felt flat crown hat with 4 1/2 inch flat brim and grosgrain ribbon band with bow, the edges with grosgrain trim, and with interior leather sweat band and later black satin lining 5" H x 15.75" W x 17" D; Inner band: 21.5" C With dust accumulation and wear commensurate with age and use. The crown lightly crushed with multiple creases and indentations, and heavy creasing with a small split to top front. The fur with a few areas of rubbed wear, impressed marks and scratches to exterior and to interior. Minor wear to ribbon edge trim. The likely 19th century later-added interior leather band with cracks, a wide break, and loose stitching, with areas of adhered repairs and possible restoration to band edge and to interior top of crown. The modern replacement lining is loose in one area.
