An interesting early 18th century walnut long case clock by a Tompion apprentice William Moraley, London William Moraley, London
The stepped cornice raised on turned Doric columns to a concave throat and long trunk door with quarter-veneered panels framed by a moulded edge, on a crossbanded base and moulded foot. The 11 inch square brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels enclosing the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed between V and VII, and with fancy meeting-arrow-head half-hour markers and lozenge half-quarter markers, matted centre with running seconds and chamfered date aperture. The plates united by five substantial pillars (the centre latched), with anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell. Set on an oak seatboard, and together with two lead weights, a brass faced pendulum, two door keys and a crank winder. Not tested, but will tick and strike. 2.04m (6ft 8ins) high.
