  • Lot n° 65 A late 17th century ebony veneered quarter repeating table clock timepiece Samuel Aldworth, London Samuel Aldworth, London The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over a caddy top and moulded cornice, the front with (later) cast sound fret and Knibb style lock escutcheons, the sides and back with glazed observation windows, set on a moulded base on block feet. The 7 inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, lozenge half-quarter marks, fleur-de-lys half hour markers signed around VI Aldworth, London, the matted centre with mock pendulum and calendar aperture with a single ringed winding square with blued steel hands framed by cast cherub head spandrels. The single fusee movement united by five robust knopped pillars with verge escapement and short bob pendulum. On activation of the repeat cord, the clock will sound the hour on a large bell and the number of quarters on a graduated nest of four bells and hammers. The backplate with single line border and a symmetrical engraved pattern of foliate scrolls. Ticking and repeating. Together with a door key and a 17th century-style 'Knibb' winding key with pierced foliate handle. 40cm (14ins) high.
