Maarten Van Severen was a Belgian furniture designer and interior architect. He came from a family of artists: his father was the abstract painter Dan Van Severen and his brother Fabiaan Van Severen was also a designer. Maarten Van Severen began studying architecture in Ghent and designing furniture in 1986. He is considered one of the few Belgian designers who managed to reach the international design summit. Maarten Van Severen worked with several major furniture manufacturers, such as Vitra, Edra, Kartell, Bulo, aiki (formerly Top Mouton) and Pastoe. His best known design is the .03 chair produced by Vitra, the industrial version of his earlier design CN° II. Van Severen did not limit himself to furniture design. His interest in the interaction of furniture with the architectural environment led him to collaborate repeatedly with Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA, for example on the Villa Dall'Ava in Paris, a residence in Floirac, the public library in Seattle, the Casa da Música in Porto and the Dutch embassy in Berlin. For architect Abel Cahen's Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, he designed the public spaces (reception, library, auditorium, educational space and restaurant). His first and last comprehensive architectural project was for the twin brothers Stefan and Kristof Boxy, a kitchen pavilion for their catering business in Deurle. They show wear. They have a seal on the base and adhesive.
