Just after the gift, Herr Mueller is embroiled in an altercation with the local Cherokee who, in his prejudice, he subsequently blames for the death of his family. In vengeance he scalps Adewahi, the Cherokee healer and Claire's friend, and presents it to Claire. The Episode ends with the Cherokee setting alight to his house and the image of a singed doll atop a grave. The Prop Department had to test lots of materials to find out what would look burnt but not fully catch fire and eventually jesmonite was decided upon to create the finished burnt look.
