A fine Limehouse sauceboat, circa 1746-48 Of silver shape, the shallow oval form with a shaped rim, supported by three paw feet with lion-mask terminals, the scrolled handle with a curled leaf thumbrest, the sides with panels carefully painted in blue with a Chinese gentleman standing before plants issuing from rockwork, two floral sprays either side of the pouring lip, dark 'comma' motifs either side of the handle terminals, the interior with a flowering peony, and garlands of flowers hung from stylised shells, 18.5cm long
