His figures have Expression energy amongst their lush tropical surroundings. Lovelace and fellow artist Peter Doig co-founded the alternative cinema space Studiofilmclub. In 2023, Lovelace was commissioned to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the baptism of Quobna Ottobah Cugoano (1757-1791), one of Britain’s most important abolitionists, for permanent display in St. James' church, Piccadilly.
